Who is your adviser? Who do you go to meet when you need an advice?
Stop and think about it for 5 minutes. Yes I mean it, 300 seconds.
Think about the last time you needed advice. Who did you go to?
Now think of the big decisions you’ve had to make. Like what major or courses to take and what career path to choose. Think about the times you've had to make smaller decisions, like what dress to wear to that party or if you should even to go the party, the night club or deciding to listen to worldly music or not. For the latter smaller decisions, I'm most certain that will not ask your parents, you might ask your friends or siblings etc.
I assume you’re done reminiscing.
Psalm 1:1 says that you are blessed if you do the following:
Firstly, do not walk in the counsel of an ungodly person. After praying about the decision you want to make, the person you go to for advice should be a godly, christian, God fearing person. Your adviser should not be an unbeliever, sinner, a mocker (someone who jests at the expense of others).
Secondly, delight in the law of the Lord and meditate on it day and night. I want you take a another 2 minutes to think about this. Do you love God’s laws - God’s word? I do not like waking up at night for any reason. I hate times when I have to wake up at night to do my homework. But have you ever woken up at night and feel very strong, awake and like you would need a movie, play with apps on your phone or have some milk to help you go back to sleep? My friends, that is God’s strength given to you to read your bible and pray. Whenever you wake up strong at night, don’t force yourself of go back to sleep. Pick up your bible, notebook and pen and dig into God’s word. Ask for a new fresh explanation of God’s word and guess what, you’ll get it! It happens to me. God opens my eyes to see new revelations from His word and I jot it down. It’s as if God has been waiting to show these revelations to me and He had to wake me up to tell me about them. Doing this increases my delight in God’s word. So if you feel God’s word is boring, haha, now you'll know the secret to reading it.
First thing first, God can never reveal His word to a sinner. To any random person, the Bible will feel like just any story book or newspaper but to God's children, it is their manual to be victorious in every area in this world. Psalm 25:14: The secret of the LORD is for those who fear Him, And He will make them know His covenant.
If you still commit sin, you know yourself; you need to repent and ask for Grace not to go back to your sins (your vomit). Now with a clean heart cleansed by the blood of Jesus, you can now open your mouth and ask God to show you His secrets. Secrets from His word, secrets about your life, and how He wants you to live. Ask God to show you a deeper explanation, revelation and interpretation of the verses and chapters you read and he will show you as you read.
Now, there are blessings for keeping your way pure and meditating on God’s word day and night. Verse 3 says you will have all you need to prosper and you will prosper at the right time. At the time when people are looking up to you for fruits, that is when you will produce fruits, there will be no delay. It’s painful when parents invest money on their kids and don’t reap the benefits. For example, parents make sacrifices to send their wards through college, if this child does not do well that’s similar to not bearing expected fruit in season. Just like when we don’t get oranges or bananas when they are supposed to germinate. Everyone will be extremely disappointed including myself. In the same way God your father desires you to bear fruit (singular) spiritually. When you do verse 1 and 2 of Psalms 1, verse 3 will be your portion; you will always produce fruit (singular) at the right time and everything you lay your hands on will prosper. Galations 5 verses 22 says: But the fruit (singular) of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. These are the fruit God want you to produce. Ever wondered why the fruit here is singular even though Galatians 5:22-23 has a list of 9 qualities? It's because these qualities all grow on the same tree.
Remember John 15:1-2
I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit (singular), while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.
However, for doing the opposite, there is a warning. My prayer is that none of us partakes in this. If any youth decides to heed the advice of their ungodly peers, yield to evil peer pressure and ignore God’s word, that youth will be useless.
Verse 4 says that he/she will be like chaff that the wind blows away.
What does chaff mean?
Chaff means husk of corn or other seed, a.k.a worthless things, trash. Chaff is useless to humans but its useful for animals. Livestock eat chaff. But, the chaff the Bible talks about is not the one gathered to be useful to feed livestock. The chaff here is the one that the wind blows away. Twice useless! That’s dangerous!
This is the chaff that Jesus spoke about in Matthew 3:12.
12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
The chaff Jesus said He will burn up with unquenchable fire. That’s bad! That’s eternal doom. The fire does not die and cannot be quenched. That’s scary. This means studying God’s word is extremely important and God is against yielding to bad peers and walking in their evil counsel.
Verse 5 talks about the judgement of the world.
Psalm 1:5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
Stop for a moment and read Revelations 20: 11-15.
That youth, teenager or child who takes the counsel of the ungodly friend, does not obey God’s command, does not even know God’s commands because he/she doesn’t meditate on it day and night; will not have any defense on judgement day. All their evidence will not stand. They might say, I did this in your name Lord, I was a philanthropist, I gave money to the poor, I was kind to the needy, I go to church etc. but God will say I never knew you. The evidence such a one will give in God’s court will not stand.
Matthew 7:21-23
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
Finally, God knows everything you do. The path you take . The decisions you make. He knows how you’re doing whatever you are doing. He looks at your heart and sees your motives. The ways of the ungodly shall perish at last but the righteous one will be justified.
Matthew 13:43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears, let them hear.
God’s word does not contradict itself. The Old Testament, (the Psalms) and the New Testament (Matthew and Revelations), which we have seen, come together to help you understand God’s mind for you as a youth, teenager or child.
God bless you!
