Conquer Depression

I don't know if you are filled with an evil spirit or a sad spirit.

You might be filled with guilt, sadness or worries: perhaps you feel that nobody cares about you or that your life is going in the wrong direction; you might be feeling depressed, miserable and that there is nothing in this world for you or are you a cutter?

Before you kill yourself, let me tell you a story about a young man who once lived in Gerasenes. Some young men of his age were most likely happily married and settled with their beautiful kids or perhaps, still living with their parents and busy with their jobs; others, trying to get a degree in Law under the most esteemed professor Gamaliel; however this young man, lived among burial caves. He was unemployed, homeless, he had no one around him; those who cared enough, tried time and again to bind him with chains in order to amend his situation, however, the condition seemed hopeless because even though he didn't like the life he was living, he could do nothing to help himself as he was being possessed by an evil spirit called Legion - the name means many.

Hence, the man was overpowered by many evil spirits, who often tore the chains apart and broke the iron cuff on his feet, making him behave fiercely. He was a cutter too. One night, he was so miserable that he cut himself with stones and cried out. He probably felt so afraid and tired of life and so he wanted to kill himself. When Jesus and His disciples were going across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes, he saw Jesus from a distance and fell on his knees in front of Him. Then Jesus said "come out of this man, you impure spirit". The evil spirit shouted, "What do you want with me, Jesus, son of the Most High God? In God's name don't torture me" After much pleading, Jesus commanded Legion to come out of the man, so the spirits went into the pigs and down rushed the two thousand herds into lake and they were drowned.

The man became well, he could start over again and make his life meaningful. He could decide to get a job, get married and start a family. He was so joyful and ecstatic that he decided to leave his hometown and asked to go with Jesus, but Jesus did not let him, rather He told him the purpose for his life which was to go home and tell his people what God has done for him, to evangelize about the love of God and the saving power of Jesus Christ, and when he does that he would find fulfillment. The man started with the ten towns in that region, proclaiming the great things Jesus did for him and everyone was amazed at what he told them. He became someone that people could listen to when he spoke and even marvel at his remarkable speeches.

You want to kill yourself because you don't know the plans God has for you. You see your problem as big and one that can only be solved by death because that's what the devil wants you to see. What you need to do is to ask God to show you beyond this problem, beyond this embarrassing situation and shame, beyond this hardship, humiliation and stigma. Ask Jesus to set you free from the devil's evil powers and show you His plans for your life. Jeremiah 29:11.

Jesus healed the man because there was still hope for him and there's a purpose he was created to pull off. What is your purpose? Find out God's will for your life and not end it.

Remember, your life is not yours in the first place and there's a punishment for ending what you did not start. The punishment is eternity in hell. Suicide is therefore a passport to hell, a situation worse than the reason you killed yourself because you cannot commit suicide or do anything to escape from hell.
